Spider Y Maze

The Spider Y Maze is an acrylic Y-shaped apparatus employed by Daiqin Li & Matthew L. M. Lim in laboratory experiments aimed at testing the hypothesis that jumping spiders utilize UV cues to locate and distinguish prey

During the experimental phase, a Portia spider is first placed in a recovery chamber for 5 minutes to allow it to calm down and reach a state of restfulness in complete darkness. The trial begins when a sliding door, which separates Portia from the rest of the apparatus, is removed. From this point, Portia can observe both arms containing webs with stabilimenta and has the freedom to move toward either one. Each trial concludes when Portia selects one of the two webs or after 30 minutes have passed, whichever occurs first
