EPG technique is used to study the feeding behavior of insects with piercing-sucking mouthparts. In this method, both the insect and the plant are integrated into an electrical circuit by connecting each to an electrode. This allows the feeding activities of insects to be monitored and analyzed.

The EPG techniques provides live visualization and recording of plant or pray penetration through arthropods with piercing mouthparts.
